Access to NHS Direct
Two new important pieces of work have been uploaded to the NHS Direct Website. The first on the 25th November and the Second today (20/12/2005). Marking the start of an ambitious new programme of digital inclusion.
Tableless Content
The main bulk of the information on the NHS Direct website is available through the health encyclopaedia..
The content page structure has been converted to use a tableless design with several advanced accessibility features for way finding. Such as topic sensitive skip links, semantically correct mark-up and screen reader optimised page structure. As well print centric printer friendly page.
Other section to be upgraded include the free newsletter and send to a friend feature.
In the new year the rest of the site, starting with the homepage will be amended to use the new page structure.
Access to foreign Language leaflets
A new languages section has been added to provide access to 120 of the most popular encyclopaedia topics, in 12 different languages.
Currently the content is provided as images with PDF information leaflets but there are plans to fully incorporate foreign language text in the pages in the new year.
